On the 22nd to 26th April 2019, the Centre for Maritime Economics and Industries Maritime Institute of Malaysia (MIMA) successfully conducted an MTCP training programme in collaboration with IORA on Sustainable Development for Ports & Shipping in the Indian Ocean Region for Maritime Connectivity, at the Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel Malaysia.
The programme was designed to enhance competency in regulating and managing port and shipping issues, as well as to provide insight to the into growing complexities and best practices of these two maritime industries.
It was aimed at senior and middle-level officials from relevant government agencies involved in policy making, regulations port and shipping management from respective IOR countries. The training also served as a bridge for participants from diverse backgrounds and culture to build a network and develop friendships.
A total of 13 IORA country participants and 10 local participants attended the training. IORA country participants were from Comoros, India, Iran, Mauritius, Seychelles, Singapore, France, Somalia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Thailand, while local participants were from Malaysian ports, port authorities, shipping companies, as well as researchers and interns from MIMA.
